At The Edge Sports Center, we encourage everyone to participate in sports with our soccer programs and other organized sports programs. But on February 1st, we’re putting the focus on women and girls. That’s because February 1st is National Women and Girls in Sports Day! It’s a day when we celebrate the achievements of female athletes and the women and girls they inspire.
There are many reasons why girls benefit from participating in sports like soccer programs. Here are just a few.
Regular exercise is good for everyone, but especially young people. Not only does it keep them moving, but it also helps them form good habits later in life. Kids who are active early in life are more likely to carry those habits into adulthood.
Mentally, participation in sports can also have a number of benefits for girls. Being part of a team can help to develop social skills and a sense of belonging, and can also teach girls about teamwork, communication, and leadership. Setting and working towards goals can also help to develop discipline and motivation. Moreover, participating in sports can also boost self-esteem and confidence, which can have a positive impact on a girl’s overall well-being.
Stay on Track
Girls who participate in sports often have more opportunities to interact with other girls and women in positive and supportive environments, which can be especially important during the teenage years when girls are navigating complex social dynamics. This can help to build a sense of community and a positive sense of self. Additionally, studies show that girls who participate in sports are more likely to graduate from high school and go on to college, and are also more likely to have successful careers later in life. The discipline and time management skills that girls learn through sports can help them to be successful in their studies and in their future careers.
Let’s Celebrate Girls and Women in Sports!
Even if girls do not continue with sports into adulthood, they will still carry the benefits they received with them. Whether they are natural athletes or just want to have fun on a team, joining soccer programs or other sports activities will be good for them both in the moment and in the future.
